Teen arrested with toy gun after attempted hijacking in Pinetown

The suspect was arrested by a neighbourhood watch member after he and three others tried to hijack a 74-year-old woman.

AN 18-year-old is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court after he was arrested for an attempted hijacking in Pinetown on Friday.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Capt Bongumsa Manqele, it is alleged a 74-year-old woman was leaving her home in Glenugie Road  when she was accosted by four men.

One of the men pointed a firearm at her and ordered her to get out of the vehicle.

“The victim allegedly screamed and pressed the hooter and the suspects ran away. The 18-year-old was arrested a few minutes later by a neighbourhood watch member. He was found in possession of a toy gun,” said Manqele.
