Barking success for Coco

Coco the German Shepherd trains locally at Pinetown GSD Club.

AFTER three days of tough competition at the German Shepherd National Show in Pretoria, Highway’s Coco received her Excellent Select (VA) grading.

There were 53 German Shepherds in her class, dogs older than 24 months, and on the Friday morning all dogs in the class had to perform ‘protection of the handler’ and a courage test in a stadium.

Coco excelled and that afternoon she was individually assessed by the German judge, Harald Hohmann, who flew in to judge the national show.

On Sunday morning the class was judged in movement and Coco was handled by Nico Pretorius, who also assisted with Coco’s training in preparation for the show.

Nico did an excellent job and everyone was delighted when Coco was awarded the grading of VA, an achievement only six dogs received and is only awarded once a year at the national show.

Coco is owned in partnership with Dennis and Helen Trotter, Liezl Scott and her mother, Cheryl Pretorius.

They all agreed that her achievement was a great honour.
