HILLCREST High School’s SPAR Star of the Month is one of its dramatic arts and debating learners, Jonathan Wright.
Jonathan is a remarkable, versatile and multi-talented young man, whose gifts in drama include the full package of writing, directing and acting.
He has written, directed and starred in a school play and went on to win best actor for his role in the 2017 play, based on Terry Pratchett’s Carpe Jugulum. He took on the role of Igor and stole the show.
It is not only Hillcrest High that thinks Jonathan has what it takes to excel on stage, as Jonathan has proven his talents on a global scale as he qualified to go to Orlando Florida next year to represent South Africa in drama.
In addition to his exceptional thespian talents, he has successfully taken part in the school’s debating team and has excelled in this sphere, and again qualified to represent his country in the world individual debating and public speaking championships in Toronto next year.
The challenge of funding means that Jonathan can only attend one of these events, as he needs to raise the money required to attend. Jonathan was also handpicked to form part of the student leadership team for 2019.
Jonathan hopes to explore the world and continue his acting career once he leaves school and represent South Africa in as many areas as as he can.
His advice to others is to, “Focus on your talents and use those talents to make your mark in history.”
