Summerveld groom earns victory

Xolani Lumbe started riding two years ago and has proved to be a natural.

HEAD groom at Jo-Jo’s Riding Centre in Summerveld, Xolani Lumbe, has a way with horses.

He has an empathy for them and is always soft and gentle when working with them, including problem horses.

Xolani started riding two years ago and proved to be a natural. He took part in his first show, an in-hand showing class, at the beginning of this year and loved it.

When Jo-Jo Lindsay, his employer, saw there were Grooms Ridden and In-Hand classes at the SA Showing Championships, she decided Xolani should enter on one of her school horses, Lansig Induna or ‘Tigger’ as he is known to everyone.

Xolani worked really hard at their show routine, fitting in lessons with Jo-Jo between his own and Tigger’s work in the riding school.

It all paid off and they won the Victor Ludorum for the grooms classes at the SA Showing Championships held at the Shongweni Club recently.

“It is a dream come true for me and I would like to thank all the people who made this possible, especially Tigger,” said Xolani.
