Travis sings his way to the top

The Winston Park learner recently won a Spur singing competition.

TRAVIS Brigg, a Grade 7 learner at Winston Park Primary School has been chosen as the SPAR Star of the month.

He recently won the local Spur singing competition which was held at Eldorado Spur on 16 April.

“This is an incredible achievement by a talented singer but it’s all the more special owing to the fact that he had surgery on his vocal chords prior to the competition. He couldn’t do more than whisper for two weeks after his surgery, then could slowly speak louder, and has had to be trained to use his voice to speak and sing without damaging his vocal chords,” said Winston Park Primary School’s Kerry Murray.

Despite these challenges, he entered the Spur competition and won. Travis has gone through to the KZN Regional Competition Finals to be held in September at the Kansas Spur in the Pavilion.

He’s showcased his singing talent at every school talent show since Grade 4 and he’s looking forward to participating in the productions at WBHS when he joins them for Grade 8 in 2020.

“Travis aspires to be a music producer when he leaves school but in the meantime, he balances his cultural activities with a love for cross country and enjoys playing rugby as well as being part of the WPPS Early Act committee,” Marray added.
