WATCH: Two rescued after falling into a river in Pinetown

The man and woman were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A man and a woman have been seriously injured after falling from a bridge down an embankment in Escom Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to Rescue Care, paramedics arrived on scene and heard screams from below.

“They used torches and could see two people down the bank. They immediately called for rescue personnel before gearing up and trying to carefully make their way down to the injured by creating a path.

“Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the two. Rescue tech organisation arrived to assist and planned a complex rope rescue system allowing a specialised stretcher to be lowered to rescue the two injured,” said Rescue Care Paramedics.

The patients were transported to hospital.

The cause of the incident is unknown.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
