Seniors club welcomes spring

Del Mein seniors dance into spring, celebrating friendship and confidence less than a year after the club's launch.

SPRING has sprung, and members of the Del Mein Seniors Club welcomed the new season with colourful clothing, music, dancing and delicious food.

Chairperson Shaina Chetty said spring represents rebirth and regrowth, something she believes the club has greatly experienced since its inception less than a year ago.

“The members are blooming. We no longer look outside for people to assist us; our members do everything from organising our events to public speaking. We have seen so much growth in them and their confidence,” said a proud Chetty.

During their gathering on Wednesday, September 2, members also celebrated those who had birthdays in August. They sang for the birthday celebrants and enjoyed a cake, a tradition Chetty said the club observes at the end of every month.

The social club was established to bring senior citizens together in a warm, welcoming and supportive environment. Its motto is: “Bringing seniors together through friendship, fun, and meaningful activities because no one should have to grow older alone.”

The club’s weekly programme includes yoga, meditation, physical activities, mental games, quizzes, educational talks, demonstrations and a variety of fun social events.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
