EIGHT-year-old Grade 2 learner, Rylee van Heerden is Westville Junior Primary School’s SPAR Star of the Month. Rylee was part of a 34 member team that represented South Africa at the 2019 BMX World Championship event held in Zolder, Belgium.

Rylee competed in the Cruiser class for girls 12 years and younger. The aim of the competition is to advance through the qualification stages to reach the final 8, and thereby achieve a world number. Rylee managed to reach the final and secured seventh place, achieving a World 7 number for South Africa.

At a very competitive event with more than 3000 riders competing in different age groups, SA could only manage three world numbers. Rylee is the only KZN rider and the only female member of the SA team that managed to reach a final and secure a world number. This makes her achievement very special and the school is very proud of her.
