‘Pumba’ the bush pig successfully rescued from M13 stormwater drain

The bush pig will be assessed and rehabilitated by CROW before it is released back into its natural habitat.

A BUSH pig escaped from the Paradise Valley Nature Reserve and found itself stuck in a stormwater drain along the M13 today (Friday 30 August).

The rescue team consisted of Blue Security, local snake catcher, Nick Evans, CROW, Monkey Helpline and Kloof Highway SPCA.

According to Blue Seceruty Community Liason Officer, Andeas Mathios, the bush pig was spotted by a homeless man and it must have been stuck therefor a few days.

“After the rescue, the pig will be transported to CROW where it will be rehabilitated and relocated to a safer area,” he said.

*UPDATE: Mathios has since confirmed that Pumba had unfortunately been euthanised.

The poor animal, he said, had suffered a fractured spine. It is suspected that he had been hit by a car.

“We suspect he dragged himself from the road and fell into a stormwater drain. He could have been stuck there for any period of time,” he explained.
