Giffy opens first solo exhibit

The professional artist recently launched an exhibit at Woza Moya's art gallery in Hillcrest.

The talented Giffy’s artwork was recently showcased at an exhibition at Woza Moya’s art gallery.

This was his first solo exhibition and it was a great success as his fellow artists, art lovers, family and friends gathered at Hillcrest-based gallery to celebrate Giffy and his work.

The art displayed in the gallery, much like his murals around Kloof and Hillcrest, were inspired by the beauty of the flora and fauna of the upper Highway area.

Giffy has a passion for creating art in public spaces and for transforming plain and boring surfaces into places of interest and intrigue, a talent he has honed for more than 10 years.

The work displayed at the exhibition are pieces that depict explosions of bold colours in his landscapes, flowers and fauna as well as delicate feathers of owls’ and kingfishers’ on his cushion covers.

“I believe that appreciation is one of the most important building blocks for unity and inspiration. We need to appreciate more. Appreciate others and appreciate the place we live in, because through appreciation comes pride, and through pride comes unity and through the sense of unity, comes conversation,” said Giffy during his opening speech.

In addition to Giffy donating 50 per cent of all his sales to Woza Moya, the NPO also had wonderful support from Sam Clark, the owner of YNG GNS mobile bar.

He kindly donated proceeds towards Woza Moya’s cause to help economically empower people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS.

“A big thank you goes to Tatum Holder for her beautiful singing of local and self-composed songs, Demi from Eats of the Earth for her delicious vegan patties, Keith and Lulu Edy-Roderick from Lulu Bee for coming along to sell their hand-made products and Stepping Stones Framing Studio for donating R200 gift vouchers for the framing any of Giffy’s work,” said Woza Moya’s fund-raising and marketing manager, Wendy de Gaspary.
