Swanky new crèche built in Hammarsdale

Owner of the Hammarsdale crèche, Sibongile Shange thanked everyone who made her dream come true.

WITH the incredible support of the community, the Robin Hood Foundation officially opened the newly-built Thandolabantwana crèche in Hammarsdale.

Crèche owner, Sibongile Shange’s dream of having a safe haven to educate and raise the children in, came true following nine months of fund-raising, planning, building and prepping.

She said words just fail her, “I do not even know where to start thanking Robin Hood and all the volunteers. I did not expect this, only tears come out whenever I look at this beautiful building.”

Shange said she was referred by the Christian Social Services social workers to the Robin Hood Foundation.

“I opened this crèche in 2006 working in a rondavel up until I received a RDP house. The house was small but because of my love for children, I continued looking after them,”said Shange.

The children aged from just three months to five years attend the crèche and Shange said the children can now be grouped in the respective ages.

Owner of Thandolabantwana, Sibongile Shange, is thrilled about her beautiful new crèche and what it means to the children.

She added the reason she persevered was because of her upbringing. “I had a tough upbringing and it hurt to see children roaming around the streets with no one to look after them. I do not like to see children growing up the way I did and being abused. I cook them vegetables that I grow in my garden,” said Shange.

RHF founder and chair, Cindy Norcott, said, “It takes a village to raise a child and today the Robin Hood Foundation did our official handover of our brand new Thandolabantwana crèche in Hammarsdale along with about 60 supporters and all the children.

“I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who contributed, volunteers, corporates, individuals. The community support for Buy-A-Brick 2019 has been incredible to ensure we handed over a world class crèche in which can raise remarkable children. This was a very proudly South African day seeing so many ordinary citizens investing in improving the lives of our children,” said Norcott.
