Kaunda asked people to not look away when they witness the abuse of women or children.

ETHEKWINI mayor, councillor Mxolisi Kaunda, launched the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign in partnership with the South African National Taxi Association at the Pinetown taxi rank on Wednesday, 27 November.

The campaign is commemorated annually between 25 November and 10 December to raise awareness on gender-based violence.

Kaunda called on all the residents, especially men, to take a stand against gender-based violence and declare boldly that ‘enough is enough’.

The event started with a march to a taxi rank in Pinetown where Mayor Kaunda spoke to taxi drivers about the scourge of gender-based violence.

“The voices of men are crucial if we want to win the fight against violence and abuse.”

Kaunda pleaded with all fathers to instill the values of human dignity, equality and respect in young men and boys.

“Our young boys must be mentored and guided in their journey to adult-hood so that they value and respect women and children,” he said.
