Mariannhill GBV victim’s mom speaks out after case postponed
A FAMILY of a young Mariannhill woman had to suffer additional disappointment and frustration on Thursday, 10 December – the last day the country commemorated 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.
Thandeka Thwala was allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend on 26 November last year and passed away on 8 December 2019 after being in a coma for three weeks.
The trial which Thwala's mother, Ntombizodwa Nzimande has been looking forward to, so that she can receive some answers and closure, was postponed due to the prosecutor being absent.
Nzimande said although she was disappointed by the postponement, they will continue to wait patiently and trust the justice system.
“I am still deeply hurt by the passing of my only child.
“She was also my best friend, a day never goes by without thinking of her,” said Nzimande.
Thwala was a mother to two children, a boy (9) and a girl who is now two years old.
“The boy is still not coping and his school work has been affected. It is the festive season and he misses her dearly and the place she used to take them to.”
The accused is currently out on bail and the case was postponed to 26 February 2021.
