AACL’s Dave Rogers said they took the dogs in yesterday, March 23.
“As this disease is highly contagious, although not dangerous, we are currently undertaking some strict hygiene and isolation protocols to prevent other animals in our care from being infected, under the guidance of two of our consulting vets.
“Due to this situation, we have decided that it would be in the best interest of our dog walkers and their furry friends, as a precautionary measure, that we cancel the dog walk due to take place,” said Rogers.
He apologised for the short notice and any inconvenience caused, “but we believe that we are doing the responsible thing by cancelling the event and preventing the further spread of this infection,” he said.
The next dog walk will take place on Saturday, April 16.
The Animal Anti-Cruelty League was established in 1956 as an independent self-sufficient welfare organisation that exists to prevent and eliminate cruelty to all animals whether arising from ignorance, neglect or deliberate cruelty and to service the less advantaged communities though education to care for their pets.
