A young boy aims to better society one jar at a time
A Highbury Preparatory student is making the world a better place through his "Jars of HOPE" initiative.

AN eight-year-old Hillcrest resident was motivated to take matters into his own hands after the devastating floods hit KwaZulu-Natal last month.
With hundreds of homes lost and thousands of people displaced, the grade 3 learner, Reece Prinsloo from Highbury Preparatory School started an initiative called “Jars of HOPE”.
Prinsloo was motivated to create these jars of hope to provide nutritious meals to young children who lost their homes to the devastation.

The jars consisted of 1 stock cube, 50 grams of packet soup, half a cup of lentils, half a cup of soup mix and 1 cup of rice.
Yesterday, the young resident proudly donated 16 jars to Project Hope SA which was estimated to provide approximately 160 children with nutritious meals.
The marketing officer at Highbury Preparatory, Roxanne Houareau said, “We are so proud of Reece – he embodies what it is to be a Highbury boy. His kindness and generosity speaks true to our ethos”
Prinsloo has challenged his class mates as well as other schools to beat his contribution, by changing the world one jar at a time.
“Reece has challenged his class to create jars of hope, and we look forward to seeing them take up the challenge,” Houareau concluded.
