Botha’s Hill couple has charity at heart
Patrick and Jane are grateful for the 58 years of love and joy they have shared in their marriage.
JOINED by their similar minds and hearts, Patrick and Jane Chetty celebrate 58 years of their union in marriage. The Botha’s Hill couple have been happily married, and they both attest that their union is held together by the charity they serve at the Highway Outreach Community Church. The couple have known each from their childhood years and had no idea that they would be serving a greater purpose together.
“We met when we were very young, when we both went to Gillitts Primary School. Over the years, our relationship developed, and we got married and had our first child when we were eighteen years. Our families knew about our relationship and supported our decision to get married,” he said.

The couple said they both come from humble beginnings, which has birthed the outreach programmes through the church where Patrick is the senior pastor. “I grew up on a farm, not having much – my upbringing has brought me closer to the people we help through our outreach programme. We take care of the marginalised community by donating food parcels, and we have some children we have taken into our care. Every Wednesday, my wife and I work together to prepare food that will be donated. This has made the journey worth it because we come from there ourselves and we understand,” said Patrick.

Furthermore, Patrick also works as a marriage counsellor, and this adds to his role as a senior pastor. He said this has also aided in his marriage and family.

The couple share three children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. “We have always been blessed with love and support from the people surrounding us, and we continue to live life in that way. Situations come and go in life, and with every experience, there is a lesson to be learned. We have lived that way and kept it together for those reasons,” they said.
The couple further highlighted that they have kept their lives simple, which has enabled them to thrive and maintain their lives and relationships. “Life needs no further complications, and it works better if you keep it simple as that has an impact on your daily living,” he said.
