Jaws of life used to free truck driver from wreckage in Westville

The driver who was severely trapped in the truck wreckage sustained moderate injuries.

A TRUCK driver, believed to be in his 20s, sustained moderate injuries after a collision.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, paramedics responded to a serious collision on the M19 Durban-bound after the Blair Atholl off-ramp in Westville.

“Upon arrival, paramedics found that both drivers had lost control after the impact of the crash. The vehicles rolled down an embankment before coming to rest on their sides.

“Paramedics made their way down to the vehicles to find the truck driver severely trapped inside the vehicle,” said Jamieson.

He said the driver was found to have sustained moderate injuries.

“The fire department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulics to free him. The man was freed after an hour and a half.

“He was stabilised on scene and taken to hospital.”

Jamieson reported that the driver of the small car sustained minor injuries.
