Home Ground Church hosts a blood donation drive

Home Ground Church in Westville to host donation drive for Easter season.

DOING their due diligence to community service, the Home Ground Church in Westville partnered up with the South African National Blood Services (SANBS) to host a blood donation drive on Saturday, January 27.

From 09:00 to 14:00, church members and the Westville community came in to donate blood at the church premises.

Speaking to the Highway Mail on the day, Home Ground Church communications officer Moira Longe said they have been doing this as part of their community work, and it is their way of continuing to give and encouraging their community to give in different ways.

“It is a lovely central, accessible place for community members. It is a social-responsibility thing, and we are always happy to join the good cause and spread the message,” said Longe.

Longe said this is not their last donation drive as one is also coming up during the Easter holidays. “One of our biggest highlights is the drive on the Easter weekend where we will partner up with SANBS again to allow people who desire to, to donate their blood. As we believe that Jesus shed his blood for us, we are able to give our blood in a way that gives life to others. It is not the same as Jesus’ blood that was shed for forgiveness, but we get the chance to give life and help other people.

“It is usually a success, and we often give out invitations for people to attend the Easter service the following day. We encourage our members and community to be part of the initiative and be present to welcome other community members,” she said.

The community is invited to another blood donation drive that will be held in April – date to be announced. All community members are welcome.
