Taxi accident leaves 10 passengers injured

Two taxis collided head-on in Pinetown, on Old Main Road.

TWO taxi drivers were entrapped in their vehicles and 10 passengers were injured after two taxis collided head-on on Old Mail Road in Pinetown on Saturday evening.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson reported that they responded to the accident around 18:30 on Saturday evening.

“On arrival, paramedics found that two taxis had collided head-on, leaving both drivers entrapped in their vehicles. The eThekweni Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to cut the men free. Once freed, both patients were carefully extricated and placed into awaiting ambulances,” he said.

Jamieson said the 10 injured passengers were stabilised on scene and transported to nearby hospitals.

The events leading up to the crash are unknown, however, SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further.
