Driver trapped after head-on collision

A head-on collision left a man trapped in his car and two others injured on Otto Volek Road.

A MAN had to be cut free from the wreckage of his vehicle following a serious head-on collision on Otto Volek Road near Blair Road in Pinetown on Tuesday morning.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson reported that emergency services, including ALS Paramedics and the eThekwini Fire Department, responded to the scene shortly after 10:00.

“On arrival, paramedics found two severely damaged vehicles and a bakkie driver trapped inside one of them. The eThekwini Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and hydraulic rescue tools to free the entrapped driver. Once extricated, the man was stabilised on scene by advanced life support paramedics,” he said. 

Two other people from the vehicles sustained moderate injuries. All three patients were treated on the scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals for further medical care.

The cause of the crash remains unclear at this stage. SAPS were on the scene and have launched an investigation.
