In celebration of the beautiful diversity that Heritage Month highlights, The Pavilion invited Thulasizwe Mngadi owner of Legends Barber, to share how his business reflects the power that heritage holds and the impact it continues to make in the community.
LEGENDS Barber may have started as a humble dream in Eldorado Park 11 years ago, when founder Sheldon Tatchel opened the very first shop, but today it stands proudly as one of the top barbershop brands in South Africa, with a growing footprint across the continent.
For Thulasizwe Mngadi, spotting a gap in the market in and around Westville was the spark to bring the brand to The Pavilion, and making world-class grooming services accessible to the local community. “Our story is really one of humble beginnings,” he explains. “To grow from a small barbershop into an internationally recognised brand proves how far hard work and commitment can take you. That’s something we carry into everything we do at our barber shop.”

To Thulasizwe Mngadi and his team, it’s also about creating moments that change lives. “Just last month a customer came in asking if we could cut his hair for free. He had a job interview as a security guard and wanted to look professional. We gladly did it, and two days later he came back to thank us, saying he got the job. That’s the real power of what we do.”
