TWO suspects were arrested during a Westville SAPS operation to commemorate Women’s Month, which was dubbed Operation Basadi.

The operation on Thursday (August 13) was joined by JAG Security and led the Westville SAPS’ Lieutenant Colonel Adele Roos.

Women officers from Metro Police, security companies, Correctional Services and medical personnel were also part of the operation.

The communications officer at Westville SAPS, Sergeant Zwelethu Khathi, said the operation was conducted from 09:30 to 12:00 and included an awareness campaign on gender-based violence.

Khathi said one suspect was arrested for being in possession of cocaine, while the other was arrested for allegedly violating the Immigration Act.

JAG Security has said that such partnerships are welcomed because they are important.

“Effective crime prevention requires co-operation, visibility and a united approach between SAPS, law enforcement, private security and our communities.

“We are especially proud of the women who serve on the frontline every day — women who lead, protect and make a difference in their communities.
