THE police in Pinetown are “pursuing all available leads” to identify and arrest the suspects behind a business robbery where a vehicle valued at approximately R1m was stolen from a car dealership on Josiah Gumede Road on Monday (August 10).

The communications officer at the Pinetown SAPS, Jennifer Naidu, confirmed that a case of business robbery has been registered at the police station following the incident which occurred at around 06:00 on Monday.

“It is alleged that eight unknown suspects were involved in the robbery. Four of the suspects were armed with firearms, while all the suspects were reportedly wearing balaclavas and gloves.

“The security officer was performing guard duties at the premises when he was approached by four armed suspects and forced into the guard house. The complainant subsequently observed the remaining suspects using a grinder to cut the lock on the gate before fleeing from the premises.

“A vehicle valued at approximately R1m was reported stolen during the incident. No shots were fired and the security officer was not injured.

“CCTV footage is available and forms part of the ongoing investigation,” said Naidu.

She added that the police are working closely with Business Against Crime as leads are being followed, as well as on “ongoing efforts to combat crime affecting the business community”.

“The investigation is ongoing, and SAPS is pursuing all available leads to identify and apprehend the suspects,” said Naidu.
