Head-on collision leaves occupant trapped in wreckage

Six patients were taken to hospitals after a head-on collision between two vehicles.

AN occupant was trapped in the wreckage after a head-on collision on St James Avenue, just after the Pavillion. ALS Paramedics reported that they responded to the incident to find two badly damaged vehicles on Saturday, 3 September just after 3pm.

“The vehicles had collided head-on before one vehicle left the roadway, coming to rest up a bank. Immediately, more ambulances and Advanced Life Support Paramedics were dispatched to assist,” they reported. 

They said the trapped occupant was freed by Durban Fire Department using the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment.

“A total of six patients were stabilised and treated on scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required.” 

They reported that the events leading up to the collision are not yet known.
