The market was started after the 2021 July riots and looting which resulted in the disruption of regular supply chains and many supermarkets closing or running short of stock.

It was during this time that a resident, Paula Osborn, from The Farmacy, stepped in to supply organic vegetables from her existing network of small growers.

“As a result, a pop-up market was set up on the edge of Sunnybrae Park. At the time, it provided welcome relief to the stressed residents, not only for essential supplies but simply to connect with each other,” said a resident, Henre Benson.

Following the July unrest, Osborn and a few other locals decided to persist with the park market concept. Many small business owners joined in, and The Buzz market was started.

Benson said The Buzz was born with a vision of becoming a local, sustainable community market.

“From its humble and earnest emergence from the chaos of July 2021, the founding members are committed and enthusiastically building something for and by Westvillians, with a permanent home at 38 Pitlochry Road,” said Benson.
