Jenz is happy to help grannies
The Upper Highway resident said the women she employed after struggling to get a job will become 'stand-in grannies' for parents who are not available for their children, and 'stand-in family' to the oldies whose families are not close by.
AFTER struggling to find a job, 64-year-old Jennifer Wells, fondly known as Granny Jenz, created her own company, Happy to Help Grannies.
The company was started in 2023 to create jobs for women over the age of 55 who are battling to find a job.
The bubbly Wells said the idea behind her thinking is that her ladies will basically become ‘stand-in grannies’ for parents who are not available for their children, and ‘stand-in family’ to the oldies whose families are not close by.

The Upper Highway resident beamed with pride when she announced that, to date, she has employed 33 women in and around the Durban area.
With their motto, ‘We are caring, compassionate, and loving grannies, always ready to help’, the women go out of their way to offer best services.
“All my staff have experience in dealing with the young and old. They are all upstanding ladies, with high morals and caring natures – they offer nothing but the best service.
“I am hoping to employ more. I have been so blessed to have been sponsored our uniforms, which consist of golf shirts. I have also been sponsored the branding of my car and the printing of the golf shirts, with the logo and company name, which you can see on the right-hand corner of my letterhead,” she said.
Their services offer ‘Stand-in Grannies’ and ‘Stand-in Family’.
“We take the place of grannies that are no longer with us or are too far away. We do that by taking your child/children to sports, parties, shopping and outings.
“We will also be offering help to first-time mommies. We will help grannies whose families are not around – for them, we will become ‘Stand-in Family’, taking them to doctors, shopping, outings, paying them visits and sleepovers after operations or if they are not feeling well.”
She conveyed a huge thank you to all the sponsors that have made this business a success.
