JUST one unit of blood can save up to three lives. A Westville company, Netcofig, recently showed their support for The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) ‘Good Hood’ drive by hosting a blood drive at their offices recently.
The SANBS team collected 31 pints of blood which were donated by the company’s staff, the public and businesses from the surrounding community.
Erica Floweday, operations director of Netconfig, said that they host blood drives at their offices every few months and had set a target of 21 pints for this drive.

“We are absolutely thrilled and so grateful for the wonderful support we received for our drive, which has enabled us to bank 31 pints! With one pint of blood able to save three lives, this means 93 lives saved and a wonderfully selfless contribution by the incredible people who came to donate to help ease the plight of the shortages that our Blood Bank faces on a continuous basis here in KZN!” said Floweday.
Neelashan Govender, donor relations officer, said they are always grateful for the support from individuals and companies who host regular blood drives to help them.
“The recent holiday period, as well as the long weekends, have impacted on the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) blood supply.
“We are currently on 3.5 days’ blood supply. Ideally, we need to have a five-day blood supply available,” he said.
“We are grateful to Network Configurations for accommodating SANBS during their time of need, as well as going the extra mile to promote the blood drive,” added Govender.
