Kloof netball player to grace world courts

A local netball player's dreams come true as she prepares to play for SA in the Indoor Netball World Cup in Australia.

KLOOF netball player Tanna De Freitas is ecstatic as she prepares to play for the South African Ladies U19 Action Netball Team in Australia. Playing the sport from nine years old, Tanna is pleased that her hard work and dedication have led her to not only international courts, but many accolades at the age of 18. She has represented KwaZulu-Natal at numerous tournaments, been selected for the national U19 and U23 action netball squads and was recognised as Action Netball Player of the Year, Netball Player of the Year, and SportsWoman of the Year in her matric year in 2022.

Tanna also served as vice-head of Sports, vice-head of House, captain of the first team in netball, vice-captain of the first team in soccer and a school prefect, and she received the Headmistress’ Special Award for Exceptional Achievement, among many other accomplishments.

One of her biggest dreams has come true as she is set to play her beloved game in the netball capital of the world, Australia. The team will play in Australia from August 7 to 22. However, with the trip down under being a self-funded tournament, Tanna is on a mission to raise funds of up to R65 000 in the next three months to cover flights, transfers, accommodation, kit, tournament fees, meals and medical insurance.

Her mom, Joanne De Freitas, described her daughter as a born leader and an outstanding role model to younger netball players. “Tanna has put in many years of hard work and countless hours on the netball courts with sheer determination, and we’re so proud of her incredible recognition and inclusion in the SA team to represent her country. However, a tour of this nature comes at a huge financial outlay, which we are unable to carry on our own,” she says. ”If you are able to support Tanna’s dream, any donation, no matter the value, would be greatly appreciated. Tanna extends her personal gratitude to everyone for their kindness,” she adds.

To support or sponsor Tanna on her journey, donate via her BackaBuddy campaign: https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/tanna-de-freitas-5579673809908499822. All donations will be used to get Tanna to the championships.
