3 suspects killed in Westville shoot-out

It is alleged that the three suspects were part of a group of armed men who robbed a victim who had just withdrawn an undisclosed amount of cash from a bank.

THREE armed robbers were killed a few moments after they robbed someone at a shopping complex in Westville this morning, Friday, June 2.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the KZN police spokesperson, said reports indicate that the victim had just withdrawn an undisclosed amount of cash from a bank when he was accosted by armed suspects who robbed him of the money and fled the scene in two getaway vehicles.

“Police swiftly responded and one of the suspects’ vehicles was spotted along Dudley Road, and a high-speed chase ensued. Realising that they were cornered, the suspects started shooting at the police, and a shoot-out ensued.

“Three suspects were fatally wounded during the shoot-out, and no police officer was injured,” said Netshiunda.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been summoned for further investigations.
