Queensburgh family raises funds for a good cause
A Queensburgh resident took part in the annual Kloof and Highway SPCA Dog Box Challenge.
QUEENSBURGH resident Tracey Dragsund and her family were ecstatic to be part of the Dog Box Challenge at the Kloof and Highway SPCA on Friday and Saturday. Dragsund was one of the 30 participants who were locked up for 24 hours to raise R10 000. The participants were visited by locals who came to enjoy music and live entertainment while raising funds.
Dragsund, who is also a volunteer at the SPCA, said her participation is inspired by the love and respect she has for the work done by the organisation. “We are animal crazy, and it feels good to be part of this good cause. They never turn animals away. There are amazing people who work here with the biggest hearts. I have always been into animal rescue, and I have been volunteering at the Kloof and Highway SPCA since 2015, and we have been part of the Dog Box Challenge ever since.

“We have been in the same kennel ever since, and we always look forward to this event. We are always happy to see the volunteers and meet the community members who come through to support us. Asking people for money is hard, so this makes it fun and enjoyable,” she said.
Tracey extended her gratitude to the school she works for which helped her fundraise.
“The Care Bears Playland helped donate animal food – they hosted a pyjama day and raised funds. This was also an opportunity for the learners to learn about animals and animal rescue. They contributed largely and made this day a success,” she said.
In her kennel, Tracey had a wish basket where people could write an animal wish and put it in the basket if they made a donation. Among other things, they sold some juice that was also donated to them and art pieces that were designed with dog names.
