Support Headway Natal fundraiser

The annual craft market which will offer a variety of items is set to take place on Saturday, October 28.

HEADWAY Natal is calling on the public to support its annual craft market which is set to take place on Saturday, October 28.

Headway Natal is a non-profit rehabilitation centre assisting survivors of acquired brain injury, stroke victims and those caring for them.

A way of life can change in a matter of minutes. Sadly, it is not only the person who has survived the devastation of a stroke or brain injury whose life changes overnight.

Their families also have to deal with upheaval in their own lives as they learn to manage with the impairment of their loved one’s mental faculties, loss of movement and speech.

The past two to three years have been incredibly challenging for Headway as their daily running was halted due to the Covid lockdown restrictions.

“We have people slowly coming back after the Covid-19 Pandemic. We also want to remind the public that we are fully operational,” said Ian Vowles.

As things started to get back to normal, the swimming pool was damaged by the April 2022 floods. After ten months, the organisation has completed the repairs to its pool with assistance from various donors and sponsors.

The heated pool is an excellent therapeutic facility for patients whose movement is compromised. There are currently 45 patients attending therapy.

Manager Colleen Marais said they are still looking for stallholders.

“This is our big fundraiser, and we would appreciate support. We want to have a variety of items, and everyone is invited,” said Marais.

Headway has also got a charity shop on their premises which is run by volunteers. They are always in need of donations of any good-quality items. The items will be gratefully received and sold in the charity shop to raise funds in order to continue their service to the community.

The shop is open from Monday to Thursday from 09:00 to 13:00. The centre is situated at 11 Menston Road, Westville.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
