Bellair SAPS officer scoops excellence award

Bellair SAPS official gets recognition at the KwaZulu-Natal Excellence Awards.

BELLAIR SAPS’ Fazana Mahomed received an award for KZN Provincial Excellence Awards Administration of the Year, Level 5–7. She received the award at the KwaZulu-Natal Excellence Awards which were held at the Durban ICC.

The awards celebrated the dedication and hard work of more than 60 employees who have gone above and beyond their duties in serving the community.

Mahomed said she started her career at SAPS Bellair and has been working there as a crime analyst for the past 15 years.

Speaking about her job and what it entails, Mahomed told the Queensburgh News that she is a Crime Information and Management Analysis Centre (CIMAC) official.

“I analyse crime for the station area, determine the pattern of crime and where and how it is occurring, and I aid the functional members with this information so as to enable them to deter or curb the crime and also to help with the investigation process.”

She said she believes her excellent analytical skills, which helped the members to deter crime in the area, were the reason she was awarded.

“I have also assisted the KZN Provincial Crime Registrar Office with compiling crime statistics for the KZN Province and aided in training new members in my field.

“I worked numerous community-based projects during the year in the Bellair Policing area,” she said.

Apart from her daily job at the police station, Mahomed is also an admin for the Arundel Employment Group. The group helps unemployed individuals and the youth in the community with jobs.

“I am ecstatic about winning this prestigious award and proud to be making a difference in the community I serve.” She beamed with pride.

She described herself as a bubbly person who is very family-orientated. “I love to help others.”
