New station commander for Malvern SAPS

Malvern Police Station welcomes new station commander.

MALVERN Police Station has a new station commander at the helm, and she goes by the name of Lieutenant-Colonel Prudence Nokuphiwa Jwili.

Colonel Jwili took the reigns from Lieutenant-Colonel Lucky Siyabonga Njomboni recently and is looking forward to serving the Malvern community.

Speaking to Queensburgh News, Lt-Col Jwili said she looked forward to taking on the new challenge.

“Fighting crime is not just part of my job but a passion for me. I will ensure that criminals are arrested and face the full might of the law. I want every resident to feel safe in the suburbs they live in,” she said.

Lt-Col Jwili hails from Amanzimtoti on the South Coast. She grew up in a settlement called Adams Mission and is married with three children.

She graduated from Chatsworth College in 2005 and soon after landed a post at the Chatsworth Crime Prevention Unit.

“Growing up in a notorious township, I faced crime almost on a daily basis. There was always something happening, and it made me think that if one day I had the opportunity to tackle crime, I would take it. I always felt that given a chance, I’m sure I can contribute positively in ensuring that it becomes a better and safer place to live in. That’s what motivated me to join SAPS,” she added.

Her career at SAPS entailed many transfers and promotions, such as being appointed as an investigator at Isipingo Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, a bomb technician at Durban Explosives Section, as well as facilitating training session with SAPS K9 units and conducting lectures relating to crime-scene management and explosives to the community, SAPS and other stakeholders.

“In 2018, I was promoted to Warrant Officer at Empangeni SAPS Explosives Unit where I was the Acting Unit Commander. In 2020, I worked at Newcastle SAPS Explosives Section, also as Acting Unit Commander,” she added.

In 2021, Lt-Col Jwili joined the Umlazi SAPS as the Sector Manager and Social Crime Prevention Commander before finally finding herself at Malvern SAPS.

“As the new station commander, my priorities are to render quality service to the public, ensure the public’s safety and well-being, and to address the concerns of the police members and the community. Strengthening partnerships is also one of my priorities – restoring trust between the community and police,” she said.
