Keep your children safe, says Pinetown SAPS

Pinetown SAPS urges parents to teach their children safety measures, especially during the holidays.

PINETOWN police have appealed to the public to teach their children to be safe, especially during the festive season which is the busiest time of the year.

The station’s communications officer, Jennifer Naidu, advised parents to encourage their children to open up about things that make them scared, uncomfortable or sad.

“Parents should inform their children that there is a difference between a good secret and a bad secret.

“A good secret is fun to keep; bad secrets make you feel scared. Children should never tell strangers their name/s or where they live.”

She urged children to use the buddy system and avoid walking or playing alone outside or in public places.

“If someone approaches you and you feel scared, scream ‘no’, ‘help’ and ‘danger’.

To report crime, the public can contact the SAPS Crime Stop on 0860 010 111 or the SAPS Emergency Line 10111.

“People can also download the My SAPS mobile app. The app is a free crime tip-off mobile application available for smartphones on Google Play Store and Apple App Store,” said Naidu.
