Kloof SPCA helps prevents unwanted litters

The Kloof and Highway SPCA hopes to sterilise more animals through their outreach programme.

THE Kloof and Highway SPCA Valentine’s Day Outreach on Monday, February 19 saw 33 animals being sterilised.

Kloof SPCA’s Brigitte Ferguson said the outreach was hosted at the SPCA’s clinic and inspectors brought in animals that otherwise may never have been sterilised.

According to Ferguson, unsterilised animals run the risk of many unwanted litters, the spread of contagious sexual diseases and a life of constantly being pregnant.

“We cannot emphasise enough the importance of sterilisation. We always stress that we have to get to the cause of the approximate 740 unwanted and stray animals that came through our doors in December 2023.”

She emphasised that organisations cannot just deal with the symptoms. “Otherwise, we truly are fighting a losing battle. The truth is there are just too many dogs and cats, and sadly, that is the reason for the enormity of the problem.”

On Monday, the Kloof and Highway SPCA sterilised 33, and Brigitte said they are hoping to hold many more outreaches throughout the year.

She appealed to the public to support the Kloof and Highway SPCA as they continue to hold outreach clinics and prevent unwanted litters.

“Without your help, we will not be in a position to do so,” said Ferguson.
