Carnival raises awareness on child safety

The Jes Foord Foundation carnival to raise awareness on children safety was well supported by the community and businesses.

THE Jes Foord Foundation (JFF) hosted its first annual kid’s carnival in line with Child Protection Awareness Week on Sunday, May 26.

The day turned out to be a beautiful event with lots of support from local businesses that sponsored carnival games and created a beautiful set-up.

“We were able to raise money which will be put back into the community through our foundation initiatives.

“Although this was a fundraising event, our true goal was to give children a day that celebrated them and showed them that we appreciate them, value them and will protect them,” said the foundation’s marketing and fundraising manager, Candice McGrail.

To demonstrate this, the foundation reached out to the community heroes. The Gillitts Fire and Rescue Department, ER 24 and Community Ops Security showed up in full force.

The day started with a community prayer.

The carnival started with a prayer for the children.

“Vendors, volunteers and attendees joined hands as they prayed for the children and for the success of the day. This moment was the highlight of the day.”

McGrail thanked the community for their support as the carnival was well-attended and extended much gratitude to all the businesses that made the day a success.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
