Highway swimmer to make a splash in Namibia
The Westville Boys' learner will take on Africa's best swimmers at the Africa Aquatics Zone IV Swimming Championships.
HIGHWAY swimmer Everraud Raynard, known as Jordan, who will represent the South African team at the Africa Aquatics Zone IV Swimming Championships, said he was introduced to swimming by his grandfather.
The talented swimmer will participate with other swimmers in Windhoek, Namibia, from December 4 to 7.
“At the age of four, I started swimming at a learn-to-swim school called The Little Ducks in Glen-vista in Gauteng.”
The Grade Eight learner at Westville Boys’ High School (WBHS) said that, for him, racing is an opportunity to measure himself against his own potential.

Asked about which stroke he specialises in, he said, “I don’t really specialise in any stroke as yet as I am still young. The strokes I enjoy, though, are individual medley, butterfly and freestyle.”
Jordan said he was selected for the SA team due to his times as he has swam at a few championship galas this season.
To make the SA team, the young swimmer said he believes that his long hours and massive sacrifices have eventually paid off.
“I am honoured to represent my country, South Africa, and I give God all the glory for making this opportunity happen as being in water and playing other sports is my happy place.”
The sportsman also plays water polo and has qualified to represent the U14A KZN Water Polo team.
“I will be going straight after the Namibia championships to East London to play. I am extremely excited to play for my province.”
His future plan is to represent SA more and to enter into the Junior Africa Games, the Junior Olympics, the Junior Worlds and the Commonwealth Games.

“I also want to finish high school at WBHS with excellent marks, and I would also like to qualify for the Olympics in my matric year.”
He also thanked everyone that has supported has supported his journey thus far.
“I know my journey is not over yet as it just gets harder going forward. I enjoy a challenge and am looking forward to the rest of my swimming journey.”

His proud coach, Nick Gray, said that Jordan started training with him in April 2023.
“Jordan is a laidback, easygoing boy and is always joking around. He has a very strong mind with BMT (big-match temperament). He has an ability to be good at any sport he does, and as a swimmer, has good technique and strength.”
“If you have a talent and a passion for a sport, work hard at it constantly. Consistency is key because hard work always pays off in the end. You will go through your ups and downs, but it’s the way you handle them and come through them. Always be positive,” Gray advised young sportsmen/women.
He said he uses three letters – ABC – which are for A-attitude, B-belief and C-commitment. “They all run hand in hand. If you do all the above, you will reach your ultimate goal.”
