FOR Hillary mother and son, Bronwynne and Kurt Batstone, Christmas is a time for family and generosity.
Bronwynne, who is a member with the Woodlands Rangers Neighbourhood Watch, is also involved in various outreach and safety programmes with community at its heart.

“For me Christmas is a time when our family come together to give back. We don’t really do the Christmas tree theme but we do have a special lunch and we try, where possible, to give back to those in need. Last year, as part of a church outreach we made up shoeboxes with essential items for an old age home. We also visited a children’s home and did something similar. Giving back in a meaningful way is important to me because at the end of the day it is about showing love,” she said.
Her son, Kurt, echoed those sentiments.

“My mom has always taught me to put others first. While a part of Christmas tradition is connecting with others, it is also important how to treat others. It is simply about treating others the way you want to be treated. If you treat someone with kindness, they in return will pass it on to someone else, which I feel is important,” the 14-year-old said.
Kurt is already following in his mother’s footsteps and helps a voluntary paramedic service based in the Queensburgh area.
