Kloof SPCA rescues dog with head stuck in tyre rim

The dog which has been named Wheelie is loving the attention she is getting at the Kloof and Highway SPCA after going through an uncomfortable ordeal.

A DOG was rescued from an uncomfortable and terrifying ordeal when the Kloof and Highway SPCA team removed the metal rim of a tyre from around its neck.

The SPCA’s Sarah Van Heerden said the Kloof and Highway SPCA witnesses many sights where they are left wondering,“How, when, and what happened?”

This was definitely the case when the inspectorate manager received a call from a concerned resident about this dog which has since been named ‘Wheelie’.

The man reported that a dog wandered onto his property in Hammarsdale, and he could not believe what he was seeing.

Wheelie was found with the tyre rim at a house in Hammarsdale.

“Field officer King Ndimande and inspector Lindo Mbele rushed straight to the property not knowing what to expect. Our clinic team had been alerted as well as our maintenance team in case they were needed to assist.

“When she arrived at our SPCA, she was immediately sedated, and the vet, vet nurse, and the inspectors began to manoeuvre the rim. It was not too long before she was freed,” said Van Heerden.

The following morning, Ferguson said Wheelie greeted the staff with a wagging tail and a grateful heart.

“While she recuperates, she has certainly made herself at home lying in the sun, receiving love and attention from all the staff. Wheelie, as we have named her, is an older dog who has clearly had many litters and tough start to her life, yet she is still affectionate and trusting,” said Van Heerden, adding that they welcome Wheelie to the Kloof and Highway SPCA.
