Fabulous reads: Secrets and suspense collide in compelling page-turner

Book review – One of the Good Guys by Araminta Hall

One of the Good Guys, Araminta Hall, ISBN: 9781035018116

THIS has an intricately woven drama you do not want to be distracted from as you become immersed in this compelling novel.

With the different scenarios, you constantly wonder, “Where is the author taking me?” I remained transfixed in an effort to find out what happened next and eager to find out who the culprit was yet unsure if I wanted the suspense to end!

With constant suspicion and questions about the three main characters’ behaviour, I constantly wondered who was to blame for what was going on. And then, what did, in fact, take place had never even crossed my mind!

This story is about the complexity of relationships, involving trust and compromise, and how boundaries can become totally blurred, as well as how the characters make decisions in their personal and professional relationships. The story also highlighted how a lack of communication can lead to misunderstandings despite good intentions.

The novel is also about how the characters’ childhood experiences have impacted their adult lives. They experience feelings of guilt, which spill over into their relationships, allowing them to often make irrational decisions. They also doubt and stress about being accepted for the diverse roles they play in their relationship and are not on the same page due to not knowing and understanding each other well enough.

And then too, the story tells us how outside events and social media impact their lives with the reality of fake news. Double standards surface, and the debate continues on whether to trust a woman’s word or that of a man. This story involves many facets and truths about life as we know it!

If you enjoy reality-based suspense as well as the totally unexpected, this book will keep you hooked from start to finish!
