Cops investigate attempted murder following shooting in Gillitts

Police say the victim of the shooting had been involved in an altercation when he was shot by a suspect who thereafter fled the scene.

THE Hillcrest SAPS are investigating a case of attempted murder following a shooting in the Gillitts area on Friday.

SAPS spokesperson, Captain Ntathu Ndlovu, confirmed the shooting incident of June 20 where a 31-year-old man was shot and wounded by a known suspect.

Ndlovu said the victim of the shooting had been involved in an altercation when he was shot by the suspect who thereafter fled the scene.

“The victim was taken to a medical facility for further treatment. No arrests have been made thus far,” said Ndlovu.

ALS Paramedics’ Garrith Jamieson said the victim is a security officer who was allegedly shot by a suspect who it is believed had been a patron at a popular pub in Gillitts.

“Just before 23:00 ALS Paramedics responded to multiple calls of assistance needed. Paramedics arrived on the scene to find multiple security personnel as well as SAPS in attendance and were shown to the injured patient. The male believed to be in his thirties had allegedly been shot in the abdomen after an altercation with a patron. The man was in a critical condition and he was stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before he was rushed to a nearby hospital for the urgent care he required.  At this stage the events leading up to the shooting are unknown, however SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further,” said Jamieson.
