Action-packed hockey tourney is a must-see

The coming weekend sees some of the country's top hockey-playing schools participating in the annual Kearsney Hockey Fives Tournament.

SOME of the country’s top hockey-playing schools will be in the Upper Highway for the annual Kearsney Hockey Fives Tournament at Kearsney College from Friday to Sunday (August 22-24).

There will be 26 teams and three divisions: boys’ high schools, girls’ high schools and boys’ primary school sides.

Participating boys’ high school teams are Ashton International College (Ballito), Durban High School, Hoërskool Garsfontein (Pretoria), Hilton College, Michaelhouse, St Albans College (Pretoria), Westville Boys’ High and hosts Kearsney College.

This year six girls’ high schools will be involved. They are Ashton College, Curro Hillcrest, Danville Park Girls’ High, Epworth High, Maris Stella and St Mary’s DSG.

The simplified version of the traditional 11-a-side game sees five players a side – four field players and a goalkeeper. It is played on half the regulatory sized hockey pitch, with an addition of boundary walls.

There is no charge for entrance and ample secure parking will be available. For those wanting to enjoy an entertaining day of hockey, a variety of food and refreshments will be available at the hockey astro as well as the campus coffee shop.

Kearsney is grateful to headline sponsor Belgotex Sport for their support of the event, as well as to sponsors The Courier Guy, Halfway Ford Waterfall and MG Waterfall.

All games will be live-streamed on the SuperSport Schools app. For more information and fixtures visit www.kearsney.com.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
