IN PICS: Dozens enjoy fun run and market

A FUN run and flea market was held at the Mariannhill Monastery on Saturday, September 27, to support micro business enterprises.
The event was planned by the Congregation of Mariannhill missionaries after seeing the financial struggle many people are facing.

“The fun run/walk was an initiative to encourage a healthy lifestyle. We also had tours of the Monastery where one could be led by a guide who showed people around the Monastery and gave them a history from the time Abbot Francis Pfanner came to Mariannhill in 1882,” said Judy Figland, administrator of the Development department of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Mariannhill.

She said the flea market gave a platform for small businesses to showcase their goods and hopefully gain some money through sales.

“We plan to follow up this initiative with another flea market in December.”

Figland thanked everyone who sponsored the prizes, paid for the DJ, and for the inflatables.
“We wish to thank Siya Zulu for sponsoring oranges and water for the fun run, IMoto media for the prizes, and the Tshelimnyama Taxi Association for the jumping castle. Thanks to Seapark Parish who also joined us on the day.”

Anyone wishing to book a tour is welcome to call 031 700 4288 or 031 700 6066.
The tour also shows how the monks started various business initiatives like the farm, the iron works, the carpentry department and the tailoring department so that they could sustain themselves.
