Truck driver arrested following multiple vehicle crash on the N3

The KZN MEC for Transport says the owner of the truck is being sought for employing an undocumented immigrant.

THE KZN Department of Transport and Human Settlements said in a statement on Thursday evening, November 27, that a truck driver was arrested following a multiple vehicle crash on the N3 earlier in the day.

According to the department, the truck driver who was arrested is an undocumented immigrant from Zimbabwe.

The truck driver, the statement reads, was arrested by the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) “after his truck plunged into four trucks and a Polo”.

“The horrific accident took place in Marriannhill Toll Plaza few minutes after another accident involving a truck with failed brakes. The truck smashed into three trucks, a minibus taxi and SUV and left 12 people injured.

“We want the owner of the truck to come forward. It is illegal to employ foreign truck drivers without the necessary documents,” the department’s MEC Siboniso Duma said.
