Hillcrest SAPS victim friendly room gets new look

The Jes Foord Foundation, together with a group of committed community partners, recently supported the renovation of the Hillcrest SAPS Victim Friendly Facility, a critical space that provides immediate care and support to survivors of gender-based violence and other vulnerable members of the community.

THE Jes Foord Foundation and partners recently renovated the Hillcrest SAPS Victim Friendly Facility, a safe space for survivors of gender-based violence.

The Victim Friendly Facilities play a vital role within SAPS stations, offering survivors a private and supportive environment where they can receive assistance with dignity.

Through this initiative, Boxer funded and donated essential furniture and furnishings to help transform the facility into a space that is safe, comforting, and dignified.

Ntombi Dludla, Group Executive for Stakeholder Engagement and Sustainability at Boxer, said the renovated room has been thoughtfully redesigned to feel softer, warmer, and more welcoming, ensuring that survivors are received in an environment that promotes calm, care, and reassurance during moments of crisis.

While Boxer was proud to contribute to the project, Dludla mentioned that the success of the renovation was made possible by the collective effort of individuals and businesses who stepped forward to support the Jess Foord Foundation’s vision.

A special recognition was given to Kevin Archer of DJ Thermal Air Conditioning, Larry and Richard Vermaark of Induradec Coatings for supplying the paint (a unique new colour named Jess Foord Mint Green was created especially for the Foundation!), Kelsey Fisher from Paint The Town Wine, and Niel Stratton from Stratton Construction, whose combined efforts helped bring the space to life.

“Their generosity and hands-on involvement turned the facility into a completely different room, one that reflects compassion and respect for those who use it.”

Dludla added that Boxer believes strongly in being actively involved in initiatives that help end gender-based violence and protect vulnerable community members.

“Victim Friendly Facilities are essential in ensuring survivors are met with care, empathy, and dignity. We are proud to support the Jess Foord Foundation and our community partners in creating spaces that truly make a difference,” she said.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
