Mother and teacher eager to see God’s plan for ‘exceptional’ child

Curro Hillcrest’s top matric achiever L’chelle Bester earned nine distinctions and top 1% national ranking.

THE mother of Curro Hillcrest’s matric 2025 top achiever L’chelle Bester, Chanelle, who also taught accounting to her daughter,  said she cannot wait to see what the future holds for her ‘exceptional’ daughter.

L’chelle was Curro Hillcrest’s top achiever with nine distinctions, and was one of the top 1% best achievers in the country in five subjects.

L’chelle obtained 89% in English; 96% in Afrikaans; 100% in Core Maths; 92% in LO; 96% in accounting; 95% in IT; 94% in physical sciences; 89% in Further Studies in Maths; and 81% in Further Studies in Physical Sciences.

Her plans for this year are to study Mechatronics Engineering at Stellenbosch University.

Chanelle said L’chelle has lived a balanced life which included going on an expedition to the Antarctica during her grade 11 year, being one of five learners from across Africa selected for the adventure; playing first team hockey for the school; and taking part at high level debates at school. The straight-A learner is also deeply committed to church, devoting herself to its activities.

“I am very proud of her because she not only studied but did sports, took part in cultural activities and went on an adventure. This little girl is exceptional,” said Chanelle.

L’chelle, explained her mother, worked hard on her school work, never watched TV, and spent a limited amount of time on social media, which can be an encouragement for other children.

“I can’t wait to see what will come of her because God clearly has big plans for her,” said Chanelle.

The proud mother added that as her accounting teacher, who has resigned to take a break, L’chelle was her first student to obtain a mark so high.

“For me to finish like that is such a privilege,” said Chanelle.

At the school’s matric prize-giving last year, L’chelle was the Dux Scholar, whilst Mila Volpe was the Dux Proxime Accessit.
