Star College top learner bags 11 distinctions

Diya Hargoon, a top learner in KZN, is heading to UCT to study medicine and her tips for the Class of 2026 are: Take it easy, be true to yourself, do your best.

ANNOUNCED as the top learner in Independent Schools in KZN, Star College’s Diya Hargoon will be studying Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, at the University of Cape Town.

Diya said she feels honoured.

“I did not expect that. I knew I would do well but this exceeded my expectations. It still feels so surreal.”

Advising the Class of 2026, Diya said: “Take this year as though it’s just another year. Take time for yourself to do the things that help you relax . Don’t overcram. Be true to yourself. Strive to do your best.”

She thanked God for giving her faith in herself and her abilities.

“I would also like to thank my parents for always being supportive and my educators for their academic support,” added Diya.

Pinetown circuit manager Nonhlanhla Msomi said, “On behalf of Kranskloof Circuit under Pinetown District, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Diya Hargoon, for achieving the top results in KwaZulu-Natal in the NSC examinations.

“This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to your hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

“It is also a proud reflection of the unwavering support and commitment from your school, your teachers, and your parents. Your success is an inspiration to all and demonstrates the power of determination and collaborative effort.

“May this achievement serve as a stepping stone to a bright and promising future. Keep striving for excellence.”

The school congratulated Diya for being a top matric student in the province.

“Diya’s incredible achievement of 11 As with an impressive aggregate of 93% has truly made us proud. We are proud of her remarkable achievement and look forward to her bright future!” said Star College principal Ahmet Kayya.
