Attempted murder suspect arrested in New Germany
The police say the 44-year-old suspect had fired a shot at a person inside a tuckshop after not getting the brand of cigarettes he wanted.
ON Monday, the police arrested a suspect in New Germany who was sought for attempted murder following a shooting incident at a tuckshop at KwaNdengezi on Sunday, February 8.
According to the police, the 44-year-old suspect was arrested by members of the SAPS provincial task team for a case of attempted murder.
The police said the suspect allegedly went to a tuckshop at KwaNdengezi and “demanded a certain brand of cigarettes” but after being told that these were not available, “allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired a single shot at the person inside the tuckshop” and left the scene in a vehicle.

“The suspect was subsequently arrested in New Germany and police seized his licensed firearm as well as the vehicle which was used during the commission of the crime,” said the police.
It is reported that the suspect was due to appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, February 10.
