JUST IN: Businessman killed in hail of bullets in Westville

A businessman was shot and killed at the intersection of Menston Road and Buckingham Terrace Road in Westville.

POLICE, paramedics and other security personnel are at a crime scene on the corner of Menston Road and Buckingham Terrace Road following a fatal shooting just before 13:00 today (Tuesday, February 17).

Westville SAPS communications officer Sergeant Zwelethu Khathi said according to reports, the businessman was coming from a shopping centre in the area when a white Landcruiser stopped next to his car at the traffic lights.

“The people inside opened windows and started shooting multiple times before driving off. A case of murder will be registered at the station,” reported Khathi.

ALS paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics responded after receiving numerous calls of a shooting incident.

“Paramedics found SAPS already in attendance and were shown to a vehicle which had been shot multiple times. Paramedics assessed the driver, believed to be in his 30s, the only occupant of the vehicle, and found him to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

“He had sustained fatal injuries and unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene. The area has been cordoned off by SAPS to allow for further investigations,” reported Jamieson.

He advised motorists to avoid the area.
