HIS parents, coaches and school have expressed pride at Ahmed Abrahams for his selection to the Pinetown and Districts Schools Sports Association (PADSSA) cricket team.

The 10-year-old’s mother, Aaisha, said the Westville Senior Primary Grade Five learner’s selection is an honour and an achievement which “means so much to our family”.

“We have witnessed firsthand the dedication, discipline, and countless hours he has invested into practising, not only in cricket but in every sport he participates in. Ahmed has always had a deep passion for the sporting field and it is truly rewarding to see his hard work being recognised at this level. As parents, we aspire to see him one day represent our country but more importantly, we hope he continues to stay focused, humble and committed to his goals. We pray that through sport he not only achieves success but also grows into a responsible, respectful sportsman who carries strong values both on and off the field. We are extremely proud of him and grateful for the opportunities given to young athletes to showcase their talent,” said Aaisha.

Ahmed’s soccer coach, Jeremy Peters, noted that the team’s U11 Grasshopper captain was the only one from his school who was selected for the PADSSA cricket team.

“Ahmed’s sporting journey has been exceptional to witness. As his soccer coach, I have seen him grow from a dedicated young player into a true leader, captaining our U11 side with maturity beyond his years. His discipline, work ethic, and hunger to improve have always set him apart.

“Over the past year, he has taken that same drive into cricket and has completely exploded onto the scene. Through hard work and natural ability, he has established himself as one of the top young cricketers around, earning well-deserved recognition with his PADSSA selection.

“Ahmed is a special dual-sport talent with a bright future ahead. More importantly, he is humble, respectful, and an inspiration to other young athletes who dream big. As his coaches, we are passionate about supporting and growing his journey,” said Peters.

In a social media post, the school congratulated Ahmed on his selection to represent PADSSA at the U11 KZN Cricket Tournament in March.

“This is a fantastic achievement and a true reflection of his hard work, dedication, and passion for the game. We are incredibly proud of you, Ahmed, and wish you and the team all the very best for the tournament!”

Trials for the provincial side will be from March 22 to 25, which Ahmed will participate in.
